Ming Hu will present, “Orchestrating Volunteer Service for State Interests: An Inquiry of Volunteering in Contemporary China.” In the past years, volunteering has gradually been redefined and incorporated into the statecraft of the Chinese party-state, instead of fueling the rise of a robust civil society. This presentation reveals how the central party-state developed a centralized and state-oriented policy system regarding volunteer affairs, as well as how the local state practiced such volunteering policies while addressing the concerns of nonprofit organizations. This talk also describes how, in a recent nationwide political campaign, the central party-state has utilized volunteering to rejuvenate its ideological leadership.
胡明将和大家聊聊“为国家利益协调志愿服务：探究当代中国志愿服务”这个主题。近年来，志愿服务逐渐被重新定义，并被纳入中国的治国策略。胡明将揭示中国如何建立一套以国家为导向、集中的志愿服务政策体系，以及地方政府在落实这些政策时如何兼顾非营利组织的诉求。此外，胡明还会介绍中国如何在一次全国性运动中借助志愿服务振兴其领导地位。
